Healthy Dessert Recipes to Bake With Kids

In the recent blog post, I introduced a list of games and activities you can do with kids during isolation. As one of the activities, I mentioned that you can bake with kids. Today I want to share with you some easy and healthy recipes to bake with kids.

Blueberry Muffins

Blueberry muffins bake with kids

Ingredients:

  • 110g butter
  • 250g plain flour
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 125ml milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 225g fresh blueberries

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour muffin tin or line with paper cases.
2. Sieve flour, baking powder and salt together and set aside.
3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs and beat well. Add milk and flour mixture. Beat until combined. Stir in blueberries.
5. Fill muffin tin 2/3 full.
6. Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 25 to 30 minutes.

Carrot cake

Carrot cake bake with kids

Ingredients:

  • 250g self-raising flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 400g caster sugar
  • 350ml vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 350g grated carrots
  • 120g chopped walnuts

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease two 23cm round cake tins.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, cinnamon and sugar.
3. Add the oil and eggs, mix until blended, then stir in the carrots and nuts.
4. Divide the cake mixture evenly between the two prepared tins.
5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
6. A skewer inserted into the cake should come out clean.
7. Cool cakes on wire racks before removing from tins.

Semolina Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 100g semolina
  • 50g sugar
  • 1500ml semi-skimmed milk

Method

1. Place the semolina, sugar and milk into a large saucepan and slowly bring to the boil,
2. Stirring all the time.
3. Simmer until the semolina has thickened and softened.
